Xanthotype urticaria / sospeta  (Crocus Geometer complex)
Field Marks

According to Rindge (1978), the species in the genus cannot be reliably distinguished except by male genitalia. McGuffin (1981) suggests that sospeta and urticaria can be distinguished as follows: urticaria: Wings dark yellow with heavy brown spotting; sospeta: Wings light yellow with sparse brown spotting.

Xanthotype rufaria and attenuaria have southeastern distributions, but are otherwise not readily distinguished from sospeta and urticaria (Rindge 1978).
